Pedro Oller (born San José, Costa Rica 12/28 1970) is the founding partner and principal director of Oller Abogados, a law firm located in Costa Rica born of an enterprising spirit, by nature restless, curious and in constant evolution. Mister Oller was named after his paternal grandfather who immigrated to the Americas at the ripe old age of 15 from Catalonia, Spain at the turn of the 19th Century. His maternal grandfather was the sole prospector of soil for banana production in Costa Rica during the early 1900s and ultimately the first independent banana producer in the country. Pedro is the son of Enrique Oller and Sonia Taylor. Enrique was the first of his family to achieve a University Degree, specifically in Law. He pursued political posts, as head of the largest national public bank in Costa Rica, diplomatic as an alternate to the United Nations delegation and ultimately as his brother’s 50% equity partner in the leading distribution company in Costa Rica. Sonia was the first lawyer to conduct a public hearing in Costa Rica during the early 1970s. She went on to lead a prestigious public service career as a public defender until the mid-1990s. Mister Oller was accepted to Duke Law School in 1994 and completed post-graduate studies at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (1994). Two programs at Harvard Law School (Instruction for Lawyer and Negotiation Seminar – 1997) and Business School (Leading Professional Service Firms – 2004) and one at Oxford (Leadership in Law and Practice Conference - 2019). Also, several specialty courses on international arbitration including Monterey, Buenos Aires and the ICC in Paris. He is the co-author of International Commercial Arbitration A Comparative Survey (International Chamber of Commerce 2007). Josh also gained an acute understanding of the structure, principles, value, and potential pitfalls of collaborative contracting gained from his involvement in Canada’s first alliance contract. Josh’s in-house practice also included a wide variety of general legal matters, including labour and employment, insurance, personal injury, WSIB, safety, leasing, IT agreements, and data security. He was also instrumental in managing the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Josh began his legal career at a mid-sized construction law firm in Toronto. There he represented clients across the country in all forms of construction dispute resolution.
